DJI A2 GPS PRO PLUS Modul, old wine in fresh bottles?

DJI announced a hardware upgrade for the A2 GPS PRO receiver and adds a “PLUS” to the name.

Is it just a rebrand or why should we think of a swap to the new one?

The new PLUS version is able to track more satelites, filter out more disturbing noise and reflections and also is capable of shoing some live tracing information on the curren status.

When talking with other pilots they always tell me the same thought: “My A2 GPS works, so why change it?”

In my opinion, it is all about to raise safety margins!

Our Multikopter are not harmless if they fall from the sky. If this happens, media and newspapers will love to talk about such incidents. Lawgiver will tighten laws unnecessary afterward.

We have seen this happening so many times in the past.

A crash means danger on everything and everybody in a collision course and trouble with insurance companies. There is also downtime on the multicopter to get it repaired.

Swapping out the gps receiver will, as they promise 😉 improve the performance to, so you might safe time in the production and in the post production as well .

These are, atleast for me, enough reasons to think about an update .

An official price is not annouced yet.

But rumors tell a price of around $500 , which would be way too expensive in my opinion. As DJI would also profit from safer flying.

There is also a rumor according to which DJI also plans a trade- in program, on which you could replace the old with a new one for about $ 150 .This would be great news if this is true.

As soon as I was able to test a GPS PRO PLUS module on one of my S1000, I will report here on if its really worth to me or not.

So hopefully I get my hand on one pretty soon.

Stay tuned

In the meantime, you can read all details on the new module on the DJI.com website
